Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion) allowed just two runs on Monday at TowneBank OBX Park, but the Outer Banks Daredevils couldn’t get the offense going in a 3-1 defeat to Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs. DuCharme handled the Fightin Crabs’ lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. DuCharme allowed no earned runs, four hits and one walk over six innings.
Bailey Garfield (Catawba Valley CC) got the win for Suffolk Fightin Crabs. He allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six, walked seven and surrendered one hit. DuCharme took the loss for Outer Banks Daredevils.
The Crabs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when James Dockery (Methodist U) singled. A stolen base then moved Dockery from first to second. Outer Banks Daredevils scored its only run of the game on a wild pitch in the second inning. The game was never in doubt after the third, as Suffolk Fightin Crabs scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Haas (U of Ark – Pine Bluff).

A six-run explosion in the fifth inning carried the Outer Banks Daredevils to a 9-1 win over the Portsmouth Sea Monsters at TowneBank OBX Park on Tuesday. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Jay Golliday (Campbell Univ.), a two-run double by Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) a bases loaded walk, a fielder’s choice, and an error.
Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Outer Banks Daredevils. Chance DuCharme ( Francis Marion Univ.) started for the Daredevils, going five innings, with seven strikeouts, one earned run on four hits and two walks.
Shawn Grieser (Va Wesleyan College) couldn’t get it done on the hill for Portsmouth Sea Monsters, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked five and struck out three. The Sea Monsters offense was led by Terrance Pinkston (Norfolk State Univ), who went 2 – 4 with a run scored, and Corbin Townsend also had a 2 – 4 night at the plate.
The Daredevils scored one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Brent West (Urbanna Univ), and added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, after Damario Brown (Urbanna Univ) started the inning with a double.
Chris Childress’s (Urbanna University) walk-off bases loaded walk off of Christian Rivera (Thomas Nelson CC) boosted the Outer Banks Daredevils to a 6-5 win over Chesapeake Suns in 10 innings at TowneBank OBX Park on Monday. Childress led the Outer Banks Daredevils’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the fifth inning.
Colby Rudis got the win for the Daredevils. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered no hits. Rivera took the loss for the Suns. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed one run.
Neither team scored until the fifth when the Daredevils got on the board. The Daredevils got on the board thanks to a two-run double by Damario Brown (Urbanna University), who also made a couple of big league defensive plays at short, and an RBI double by Eamonn Collins (Tusculum College), who also played a great defensive game at third.
The Suns came alive in the 7th, scoring 4 runs. Roberto Malinowski (Angelina College) went 2 for 5 and Alex Cornell (E. Connecticut State) was 2 for 3, with a double.
Both starters threw well in no decisions. Daredevils starter Bailey Lipscomp (Chowan University) went 5 innings, giving up no runs, on 1 hit, with 1 walk and 4 strike outs, while Suns starter Will Reynolds (Hastings College) went 8 innings, yielding 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, with 3 strike outs and 4 walks.
Outer Banks Daredevils quickly matched Chesapeake Suns’ strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the ninth. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent West (Urbanna University), before going on to load the bases in the bottom of the 10th, leading to the walk off win.

The Outer Banks Daredevils scored in the fifth on a walk by Ryan Creps (Cansisius College), a bases loaded walk by Adam Whitacre (Radford Univ.), a sacrifice fly by Chris Childress (Urbanna Univ.), a two-run double by Brent West (Urbanna Univ.), a two-run error, and an RBI single by Jay Golliday (Cambell Univ.).
Ryan Creps (Cansisius College) did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Daredevils, reaching base four times. He scored three runs and had one RBI and Jay Golliday (Cambell Univ.) continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3 – 3, with a run scored and an RBI. Josh Brooks (East Carolina Univ.) got the win for the Daredevils. He allowed one run over five innings. Brooks struck out two, walked four and gave up three hits.
Mitch Malherbe (Rose State) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed five runs (four earned) in four innings, walking three and striking out three. The Waves offense was led by Julian Guiterrez (Milliken Univ.) who went 2 for 5 at the plate.
The Outer Banks Daredevils went up for good in the first, scoring four runs on a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly by West, and never relinquished the lead.

In the top of the first, Suffolk Fightin Crabs grabbed the early lead, 1-0. A single by Jaden Cleland (Cedarville Univ), bringing home Tommy Haas (Univ. of Ark-Pine Bluff) started the inning off. The Fightin Crabs matched its one-run fifth inning with one more in the eighth. In the fifth, Suffolk Fightin Crabs scored on an RBI single by Haas, plating Shane Olmstead (Greenville College).
Despite a ninth inning rally by the Daredevils, who scored 3 in the frame to force extra innings, the Daredevils were unable to hold the Fightin’ Crabs, who went up for good in the tenth, scoring three runs on an error, a sacrifice fly by Corey Andrade (Anna Maria), and an RBI single by James Dockery (Methodist Univ).
Jay Golliday‘s (Campbell Univ) lead off triple to start the ninth inning in an 8 – 8 deadlock set up Brian Remaley‘s (Anne Arundel CC) walk off single to right field, giving the Outer Banks Daredevils a 9-8 victory over the Norfolk Bluefish at TowneBank OBX Park on Monday Night. The two teams combined for 17 runs and 19 hits, including six extra base hits. Jay Golliday was the Player of the Game with his three hit, 4 RBI performance.
Eamonn Collins (Tusculum College) got the win in relief for the Outer Banks Daredevils. Collins pitched six innings and allowed only 1 earned run, and starter Bailey Lipscomb (Chowan Univ) pitched 3 innings, giving up the mound in a 4 -4 tie game in the 4th inning.
Jake Thompson (William Jessup) took the loss for Norfolk Bluefish, despite his 4 1/3 innings of work, walking one, striking out five, and allowing only two runs. Eric Baumgart (Baldwin Wallace) got the start for the Bluefish, going 3 and 2/3 innings, with 4 H, 8 BB, 3 K, and 7 Runs, all earned, but with great support from his offense, still held an 8 – 7 lead.
The Norfolk Bluefish jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Norfolk Bluefish attack began with a led off double from TJ Wardwell (Mt. Aloysius College), eventually scoring the first run of the game on a fielders choice by Jay Bowman (Fort Hays St. Univ). Calvin Holland (St. Michaels) was 3 – 4 at the plate and Matthew Koskinen (Baldwin Wallace) went 2 – 5 with a pair of RBI to help power the Bluefish offense.
The Outer Banks Daredevils scored three runs of its own in the first. scoring on a groundout by Chris Childress (Urbanna Univ) and a two-run single by Jay Golliday (Campbell Univ). Along with Golliday’s 3 – 4, 4 RBI performance, the Daredevils offensive attack included Ryan Creps (Cansius College) 2 – 4 night at the plate, scoring a pair of runs, and a total team contribution as 8 of the 9 batters getting hits and the other drawing 3 walks and scoring 2 runs, including Remaley’s walk off.
Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Thursday as Outer Banks Daredevils outscored Portsmouth Sea Monsters 9-8 at beautiful TowneBank OBX Park.
The two teams combined for 20 hits in the game. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to seven lead changes in the game.
The Outer Banks Daredevils took the lead in the seventh inning when Jay Golliday (Campbell Univ) crossed the plate, and held on for the win.
Outer Banks Daredevils was led by Ryan Creps’s hitting. Ryan Creps (Canisius College) went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Portsmouth Sea Monsters jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second. The Sea Monsters’ threat began with a single by Angelo Hronis (Lock Haven Univ). Marques Lanier singled, bringing home Zack Clement (William Jessup Univ). Portsmouth Sea Monsters added more runs when Hronis scored on a walk by Givano Torres (Lock Haven Univ) and Lanier scored on an error.
After posting two runs in the third, Outer Banks Daredevils again scored two in the sixth. In the third, Outer Banks Daredevils scored on an RBI single by Chris Childress (Urbanna Univ), plating Ryan Creps (Canisius College).
The Outer Banks Daredevils answered Portsmouth Sea Monsters’ top inning with one run of its own in the fifth. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored on a wild pitch.
Outer Banks Daredevils tied the game in the sixth on a passed ball that scored Adam Whitacre (Radford Univ), who also made a great diving catch for the final out of the game.
Despite rain that put the field underwater, forcing the cancellation of our opening night game between the Greenbrier Knights and the Outer Banks Daredevils, the fans that braved the weather were rewarded with the chance to meet former MBL All-Star and batting champion Michael Cuddyer. We are very grateful for him taking time to join us at the ballpark, and despite the weather, Mr. Cuddyer stayed until every fan had a chance to meet him, get an autograph, picture, etc. Great Baseball Player, even Greater Person.
