Former Daredevil Thomas Drafted by Detroit

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (June 8) – Former Outer Banks Daredevil Micheal Thomas, a redshirt senior at the University of Kentucky, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 22nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Saturday.

Thomas, who was selected No. 670 overall, played for the Daredevils in 2011. The catcher appeared in 37 games, starting 34 of them, while hitting .248. Thomas also drove in 17 runs.

 In addition to playing in the Coastal Plain League, the Elizabethtown, Ky. native went on to play in the prestigious New England Collegiate and Alaskan Collegiate Baseball Summer Leagues.

 This past season at Kentucky, Thomas started 57 of the Wildcats’ 62 games behind the plate. Thomas also hit .315, drove in 45 runs and belted eight homers, which led all catchers in the Southeastern Conference.
