A strong outing by Outer Banks Daredevils starting pitcher Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion U) and a big first inning propels the Daredevils to an 11 – 4 victory over the Greenbrier Knights on a beautiful Tuesday night at TowneBank OBX Park.
Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion U) recorded the win for Outer Banks Daredevils. He tossed five innings of shutout ball. He struck out eight, walked three and surrendered one hit.
Thomas Chisam (California Univ of Penn) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. Ryan Bennett (Virginia Military Institute) and Jeremy Blaisole (Lynchburg College) combined for 8 innings, allowing only 1 run, but the damage had been done.
The Knights offense was powered by TJ Wynkoop (Lynchburg College) , going 2 – 3, with an RBI; and Dominick Claxton (High Point U) went 1 – 2 and scored a run.
Ryan Creps (Canisius College) led the Daredevils offense, going 2 – 3, with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Chris Childerss (Urbanna U) went 1 – 3, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored; Adam Whitacre (Radford U) went 1 – 3, with 2 RBI and a run scored; and Damario Brown (Urbanna U) went 1 – 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the final game of inter league play between the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League and the Virginia Beach Collegiate Baseball League, the Outer Banks Daredevils beat the Portsmouth Sea Monsters on Monday night 10-3 at TowneBank OBX Park.
The Daredevils scored four runs in the first on bases loaded RBI walks by Adam Whitacre (Radford U), Brent West (Urbanna U), and Damario Brown (Urbanna U), and a Brian Remaley (Anne Arundel CC) RBI hit by pitch.
Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) led the Daredevils’ offensive threat, going 3 – 4, with 2 RBI. Adam Whitacre (Radford U) was 1 – 3, with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored, and Brent West (Urbanna U) went 1 – 4 with an RBI double. Ryan Creps (Canisius College) got on base three times in the game, scored three runs and tripled in the seventh inning.
Bailey Lipscomb (Chowan U) got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over five innings, no earned, struck out four, walked one and gave up two hits.
Terrance Pinkston (Norfolk State U) couldn’t get it done on the mound for the Sea Monsters, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked five, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
After leaving the mound, TerrancePinkston (Norfolk State U) went on to play left field, where he made a double saving diving catch in the gap, and a couple of strong throws to cut down base runners, and went 1 – 4 at the plate, scoring a run.
AJ Hunt (North Carolina A & T) sparked the Sea Monsters offense with his 1 – 2 night at the plate, with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
The Daredevils piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A passed ball scored Brian Remaley (Anne Arundel CC) to get the Daredevils on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Ryan Williams’s (Pitt CC) RBI single, scoring Kyle Vidano (Averett U). The Daredevils increased its lead with two runs in the seventh. A single by Jay Golliday (Campbell U)ignited the offense,, bringing home Ryan Creps (Canisius College), followed up by another Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) RBI single, plating Golliday.
The fans who came out tonight and braved the heat were treated to an outstanding baseball game, but in the end, the Outer Banks Daredevils lost a close ballgame, as the Suffolk Fightin Crabs grabbed a 2-1 victory at TowneBank OBX Park.
Kyle Vidano (Averett U) led Outer Banks Daredevils’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the ninth inning. Stephen Umphlett (Lenior CC) had an impressive outing against the Fightin Crabs’ lineup. The Crabs managed just one hit off of the Daredevils’ pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work. Bailey Lipscomb (Chowan U) took the loss for the Outer Banks Daredevils. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed one run.
Luke Smith (Ashland U) recorded the win for Suffolk Fightin Crabs. He allowed one run over six innings. He struck out 11, walked six and surrendered no hits. Suffolk Fightin Crabs closer Tommy Haas (U of Ark – Pine Bluff) put away the final six outs to record the save.
The top of the second saw the Fightin Crabs take an early lead, 1-0. The Crabs got things going when Nick Ippolito (Cal St U – Stanislaus) singled. Outer Banks Daredevils managed to score one run in the fifth inning on a steal of home. The lead stayed with the Crabs after the sixth, when it scored one run on an RBI single by Edmund Pilolli (Ashland U).
Bring the family out to the ball park tonight for a great night of collegiate, summer league baseball and family fun. The Fightin’ Crabs of Suffolk, VA will be coming to town to take on our Outer Banks Daredevils at 7:05pm at TowneBank OBX Park. Gates will open at 6:00pm, and tickets are available at the front gate.
Due to unplayable field conditions and the weather forecast calling for heavy rains and possible thunderstorms to move through Kill Devil Hills at approximately game time, we have cancelled tonight’s scheduled Tidewater Collegiate Summer League game between the Greenbrier Knights and the Outer Banks Daredevils.
The 2016 TSL All Star Game, scheduled to be played at TowneBank OBX Park on Monday, July 4th, has been cancelled.
The Daredevils will be back in action Tuesday night, as the Greenbrier Knights will be coming to TowneBank OBX Park to take on our Daredevils. Gates will open at 6:00pm, and the first pitch will be at 7:05pm.

The Outer Banks Daredevils and Chesapeake Suns exchanged the lead seven times on Thursday at beautiful TowneBank OBX Park, but the Daredevils ended up on top with a 4-3 win in eight innings over the Suns.
The Daredevils pulled out the win thanks to a strong eighth inning. The Daredevils scored on an RBI single by Jay Golliday (Campbell U) off Troy Sinneger, bringing home Adam Whitacre (Radford U).
Kaleb Foltz (Urbanna U) led the Daredevils’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fifth inning. Stephen Umphlett (Urbanna U) brought the heat against the Suns during his outing. The Suns managed just one hit off of the Outer Banks Daredevils’ pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out none during his 3 2/3 innings of work.
Colby Rudis (Frederick CC) got the win for the Daredevils. He allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered one hit. Troy Sinneger was charged with the loss. He lasted just 7 1/3 innings, walked 11, struck out six, and allowed four runs.
The Daredevils jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After posting one run in the third, the Suns again scored one in the seventh. In the third, the Suns scored on a wild pitch, plating Andrew McCoy (Benedict Coll).
The Daredevils quickly matched the Suns’ strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the third. the Daredevils scored on an RBI single by Damario Brown (Urbanna U).
The Daredevils got one-run rallies in the fourth inning and the eighth. In the fourth, the Daredevils scored on a walk by Eamonn Collins (Tusculum Coll), bringing home Adam Whitacre (Radford U), who also made an inning ending double play with a tremendous, over the shoulder catch on the warning track, followed by a strong throw to first to double off the baserunner..
Tonight’s game between the Norfolk Bluefish and the Outer Banks Daredevils has been cancelled due to rain and severe weather. The Daredevils will be back in action Thursday night as the Chesapeake Suns will be coming to TowneBank OBX Park to take on our Daredevils.
Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion) allowed just two runs on Monday at TowneBank OBX Park, but the Outer Banks Daredevils couldn’t get the offense going in a 3-1 defeat to Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs. DuCharme handled the Fightin Crabs’ lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. DuCharme allowed no earned runs, four hits and one walk over six innings.
Bailey Garfield (Catawba Valley CC) got the win for Suffolk Fightin Crabs. He allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six, walked seven and surrendered one hit. DuCharme took the loss for Outer Banks Daredevils.
The Crabs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when James Dockery (Methodist U) singled. A stolen base then moved Dockery from first to second. Outer Banks Daredevils scored its only run of the game on a wild pitch in the second inning. The game was never in doubt after the third, as Suffolk Fightin Crabs scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Haas (U of Ark – Pine Bluff).
